Have we talked about the pop-up game in Atlanta? It is certainly ON POINT, with more and more quality pop-ups going on around town recently. I experienced a truly #treatyoself couple of days a few weeks ago, when I decided to go to a couple (and leave the kitchen for a few meals)!
The weekend had a pretty sweet start - on Saturday, I dropped by for a quick minute to a dessert pop-up with macarons, cake, and cream puffs all baked by the lovely and talented Vy of Syndesi Designer Desserts. She does custom orders, so check out her page if you're in need of some sweets!
Luckily, for my late self, my sister already had gotten in line before I reached Moonbird, the coffeehouse, where the pop-up was taking place. After not that much debate, she ordered pretty much one of everything - a slice of lemon blueberry cake, a matcha, ube, and smore's cream puff, and several macarons (which are hard to find around here)! So I was able to get in a nice little sampler before leaving to meet a friend at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
Side note: If you are looking for something fun in Atlanta to do, check out the Botanical Gardens! They have the orchid display up right now, and it. is. Beautiful. And plus, the food at the restaurant Longleaf is pretty tasty (tried the shrimp and grits and shrimp po boy..MMM).
The same night, my sister, our friend Lillian, and I went to a pop-up dinner - Korean Fusion Presents: Seoul Sisters at Root Baking Co. (in Ponce City Market). Having been to a previous pop-up dinner by Korean Fusion, we knew we needed to get there early, so we lined up at 5:30 for a 6PM start. Thank goodness, because there was already a line at the door!
It was such a good dinner! We were super intrigued by natural wines, so we got a bottle of red. I think natural wines are going to be my choice from now on. It was so smooth and easy to drink, we easily finished a bottle (and considering how little Judy and I can drink, that's impressive, ha). We ordered the korean bulgogi nachos, kimchi toast, BULGOGI HOT POCKET (!!!!!), slutty wedge, and the kimchicken 'n' dumplins. We didn't order dessert since Judy still had sweets from the earlier pop-up, and I brought some crepe cake and matcha chocolate cups for her and Lillian to try.
The food was great! So flavorful with the kimchi, bulgogi, and cheese, and all the carbs needed to support the wine drinking. I don't know if you could tell, but my favorite was the bulgogi hot pocket. The slutty wedge was also a table favorite, unexpectedly - we weren't planning on ordering a salad, but were so glad we did.
The following Tuesday, we head right on back to Ponce City Market with Mama Kuo to try out the Kamayan ATL and Minero collaboration pop-up dinner. YOU GUYS. We were lucky to arrive right before the huge crowd - they served 400 people on a Tuesday night, amazing! I was so excited to try the sisig tacos, and they did not disappoint. We also ordered the salsa sampler, ceviche, steak taco, and the fried pompano platter. Oh, and also a side of the garlic rice, because, well. Garlic. and rice. And while they had ube flan cake on the menu, we decided to try the biko since we'd never tried it before.
Everything was so good! The sisig taco was even better than expectation, with tons of delicious textures and flavors in one bite. The fish platter was terrific, and I honestly could eat 5+ bowls of that garlic rice. Judy didn't want to even share the biko dessert, it was so yummy with the creamy rice contrasting against the crispy cinnamon tortilla.
Very happy with all the delicious things we got to eat at these three pop-ups. What are some of your favorite pop-up meals/snacks/or desserts that you've had in Atlanta? Can't wait to experience more!
